William and Mary Pantry

Even on campuses and communities with strong resources and various dining facilities, students, staff, and faculty can sometimes find themselves struggling to find a meal or a way to make their money last a little longer. And when someone is hungry, their educational attainment and lives can be dramatically affected.

This confidential program aims to alleviate hunger and need on campus by providing W&M students, staff, faculty, and dependent family members with food insecurities access to non-perishable food items, personal hygiene items, and household items while school is in session. Anyone with a valid W&M ID is welcome to access the shopping-style pantry. It is housed in the Wesley House and run by a team of Wesley students, residents and board members, and W&M faculty members.

Women’s Happy Hour

The women of the Burns Lane neighborhood meet about once per month for a BYOB happy hour. The date varies, but the times are the same: starting at 5:00 p.m. and generally ending by 6:30 p.m. We all take turns hosting.

The women of the Burns Lane neighborhood meet about once per month for a BYOB happy hour. The date varies, but the times are the same: starting at 5:00 p.m. and generally ending by 6:30 p.m. We all take turns hosting.

Each month, the BLRA communications officer sends out a notice telling everyone when and where to come. If you’ve not attended in the past, please give it a try so we can all get to know everyone in the neighborhood.

Men’s Happy Hour

The men of the Burns Lane neighborhood also have BYOB Happy Hours, although not every month. These events also start at 5:00 p.m. and generally end by 6:30 p.m. with rotating hosts.

Annual Membership Meeting

It is time for our annual meeting of the Burns Lane Residents Alliance (“BLRA”). Our annual meeting is set for Monday October 3, 2022 at the Williamsburg Regional Library at 515 Scotland Street at 5:00 pm. Williamsburg Police Chief, Sean Dunn, will be our speaker.

Please join us for the meeting, so you will be able to visit with neighbors and so we will have a quorum for our meeting!

The most important function at the meeting will be the election of BLRA board members and voting on the proposed amendment to the by-laws sent to you on September 2. There are four neighbors running for four open spots on the BLRA board.  Please see the bios.

Note that in order to vote for the Board of Directors and amendment, you will need to pay your 2023 dues of $25 (checks should be made payable to “Burns Lane Residents Alliance”) to Treasurer Ed Lindsey or at the check-in desk at the meeting. Here is a copy of the membership form.

The Board looks forward to seeing you at the annual meeting!

Jim Penny, President
